Introduction: Good nutrition is a basic requirement for good health while malnutrition substantially raises the risk of child death and increases vulnerability to diseases. The present study was aimed at comparing the nutritional status of Hausa School Children in Private and Public Schools in Zaria, Nigeria using different anthropometric parameters. Methods: Anthropometric measurements were taken from Six hundred Primary School Subjects between the ages of 6 and 11 years in Private and Public Schools in Zaria. The subjects from Public Schools were 158 males and 142 females while those from Private Schools were 137 males and 163 females. Demographic data were completed in a questionnaire. Standing heights were taken in centimeters, weights in kilogram, chest, waist and mid-upper arm circumferences were taken in centimeters. Body mass index was calculated from weight and height. Results: The results showed that at the age of 6 years, 8 and 11 children were malnourished while 3 and 1 were at the risk of Overweight and 1 and 0 children were Overweight in both Private and Public Schools respectively. The study showed that most overweight children were from Private Schools while most malnourished children were from Public Schools. Conclusion: The prevalence of overweight and obesity were common among Private School Children.
